About Our School

Toolangi Primary School is a small semi-rural school in the township of Toolangi The School community is committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment for the children of Toolangi and surrounding areas. The rich curriculum supports the community’s expectations of developing life-long learners enabling students to reach their best academically, socially and emotionally. The school lies in the midst of forest vegetation at the foothills of the Great Dividing Range and is set in very attractive grounds which include terraced gardens, extensive play equipment, a kitchen garden and several large trees of historical significance.

The school was built in 1885 to provide an education for the children of wood mill workers and potato and carrot growers living in the area. Currently there are second and third generation children being educated at the school. Recently there has been an increase in the number of people associated with the wine industry taking up residence- children of these families attend the school. Student enrolments have stabilised over the past few years. Children travel to the school from the township as well as surrounding areas including Kinglake, Glenburn and Healesville.

Toolangi Primary school provides a high quality, comprehensive and innovative curriculum with our major focii on literacy, numeracy, music, horticulture and the development of an inquiring mind and a love of learning . Toolangi has an extensive incursion and excursion program and participates in a camping program each year.

Our school kitchen garden is well established and provides learning opportunities across the curriculum. The school’s music program is acknowledged as a highlight providing opportunities for children to sing and perform at school as well as public venues and will be further enhanced through the allocation of resources in the future. We provide a safe, supportive and effective environment with small class sizes maximising learning outcomes for all students and catering for individual needs. The school staff place high importance on continual improvement and professional development to ensure teaching and learning practices are of the highest quality and reflect best practice..The school has a particularly active Parent Support Group which raises funds to provide well needed resources as well as providing support for curricular and extra-curricular activities. The group supports the school and wider community through volunteering time and energy in a variety of ways helping to promote the school as a community focus. A play group is held at the school each week for parents and toddlers.
